We are developing a new CiTiZEN KiNO episode...
CK93 : Organisms vs. Automatons ( revisited )
working title
We will come back to write a description of our themes, which will be presented at the 2nd Bits Und Baume Conference at the TU in Berlin sept.30-Oct2 ... And to take to venues afterwards to follow up on whatever perspectives we gather from there.
Link to our C-KINO events ( 2x ) in the BB2 fahrplan / program:
We also wish to create here a public resources for all those who work on these issues, and our current ecological situations and predicaments which for some time now are on the planetary scale... in deep shit !
And we ask our comrades and a variety of communities for suggestions of media that would be strong material to bring into the forum to analyse !
THE FORMAT:
We are the XLterrestrials, an arts and praxis group, based in "Btropolis". One of our projects is CiTiZEN KiNO, a series of nomadic situationist-art events, using films + media bits to navigate our challenging times. Sometimes a performative event, interactive, a hacking of the screens, a resistance to the disembodied + download-dominant culture, Media Selbstverteidigung, a Kiez Happening. Sometimes just screenings and discussions.
OUR THEMES:
XLterrestrials present
CiTiZEN KiNO : ( #93 ) Organisms vs. Automatons
- Revisited
From our perspective all is not well in the cybernetic trajectories ! If
we wish to address the full-scope of the ecological, social and
planetary turmoil already unfolding, it will be crucial to reassess our
relationship to technological environments and the
hyper-industrialization of living organisms and our habitat. Our theory
is that an uncanny *trench* * is developing - or a convergence of grave
errors manifesting - in diverse fields such as anthropocene + climate studies,
financial systems, social + political organization, biological
innovation and internet technologies.
Have we crossed a toxicity threshold as a species whereby our/their tech
industry explosions and social mutation now aim to capture, shape and adapt life
in order to feed particular systems and agendas, rather than to serve
the needs of a plurality of societies and cultures and all its rural and
urban inhabitants? These kinds of questions might lead us to other
concerns beyond finding ways to make our tech better and greener, but
more urgently to make it less destructive and less invasive to an entire
eco-system of symbiotic, intelligent and evolving lifeforms !
* the Uncanny Trenches:
not just something in the artificial oddities that are unsettling, obscene or appalling, but a whole structural abyss that is increasingly difficult to get out of.

the MEDIA Bits:
NOTE: Not all media bits we use in our programs are "good media" or things we agree with. We often use clips that we find necessary to critique and debate. And mostly we will be using excerpts rather than screening full features. Anyone wishing to send us selected parts ( edited extracts ) from works is also a way to help and collbaorate ! Contact us : podinski at mailibox dot org
YOUR SUGGESTIONS WELCOME !

“Even now, perhaps a majority of our countrymen still believe that science and technics can solve all human problems. They have no suspicion that our runaway science and technics themselves have come to constitute the main problem the human race has to overcome”

- Ben Tarnoff - Internet for the People ( 2022 )
“The myth of technological and political and social inevitability is a powerful tranquilizer of the conscience. Its service is to remove responsibility from the shoulders of everyone who truly believes in it.” – Joseph Weizenbaum (1976)
- /“Let us fool ourselves no longer. At the very moment Western nations,
threw off the ancient regime of absolute government, operating under a
once-divine king, they were restoring this same system in a far more
effective form in their technology, reintroducing coercions of a
military character no less strict in the organization of a factory than
in that of the new drilled, uniformed, and regimented army. During the
transitional stages of the last two centuries, the ultimate tendency of
this system might be in doubt, for in many areas there were strong
democratic reactions; but with the knitting together of a scientific
ideology, itself liberated from theological restrictions or humanistic
purposes, authoritarian technics found an instrument at hand that has
now given it absolute command of physical energies of cosmic dimensions.
The inventors of nuclear bombs, space rockets, and computers are the
pyramid builders of our own age: psychologically inflated by a similar
myth of unqualified power, boasting through their science of their
increasing omnipotence, if not omniscience, moved by obsessions and
compulsions no less irrational than those of earlier absolute systems:
particularly the notion that the system itself must be expanded, at
whatever eventual cost to life./
- Lewis Mumford ( 1895-1990 )
NOTE:
Apologies for the male-dominant texts list here, we have done a much better
gender-balanced mix in the film department. This is only our very recent
text encounters, we obviously have Other authors, artists and activists in our
research that play a central role - from Le Guin to Zuboff to Vandana
Shiva, Astra Taylor, Anna-Verena Nosthoff, Caitlin Johnstone, Lynn
Margulis, Joanna Moll, Angela Davis, various tech feministas +
matriarchal indigenous cultures, etc. )
And Thx to the Cyborg Grrrrls / Cyborg Cinema in Mx for putting us in touch with filmmakers from Latin America... We hope to gte some of those media clips in time....
and will be listing those resources here asap.

_________
- Frankenstein Reanimated ( 2022 ) - collected essays
intreview w/ Marc Garret
B: Using Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” as a filter to analyze the complexity of modern life, many artists, researchers and thinkers gathered and offered their own vision and perception. Why do we struggle to do good?
MG: From my position, what is doing good is reflecting on my knowledge of what it means to be working class and connecting with those who have also been othered in society. Thus, build collaborations with a diverse range of individuals and groups who are left-wing, liberal and anarchist.
I see doing good and creating positive change in society as a constant battle. The struggle with trying to exist within massive systems and structures designed by elite patriarchs is a never-ending journey. However, it’s also a journey of self-discovery that brings rewards such as meeting great people and inspiring friendships. It is a web of confusing and complex experiences and emerging pieces of knowledge that always requires constant attention.
