Mastodon OSM account?
Choosing an instance
There are many instances/servers. People at the same instance/server as we, see our messages on their local timeline (other servers show our messages in the "federated" (connected servers') timeline if they have been connected with our chosen server)
The main instance (mastodon.social) is closed for registrations atm. Lists of others:
Possible criteria:
- if we decide to have an active account, we probably need an instance that
- federates with most others
- supports ipv6 (ambivalent for mastodon.cc. 1st link says it supports it, 2nd not)
- reasonable privacy policy
- there are no terms that might prohibit us from using it (i.e. saying that all uploaded material is then available under specific license) >>https://mastodon.cc/terms
- they have no problem with accounts of projects such as OSM
- policy about abusing or nsfw posts (if we are hosted at an instance that has many problematic posts, it might be denied federation by other instances
- access to a tool that reposts OSM tweets from Twitter automatically
Interesting instances:
- Mastodon.cc - sfw (theoretically about art)
- *.osm.social subdomains available

Mastodon disadvantages?
- Anyone can make an OpenStreetMap account at one of the other instances.
- Accounts can't be deleted atm (unless you contact the instance admin)
