- There are many instances. The main one (mastodon.social) is closed for registrations atm. Lists of others:
- if we decide to have an active account, we probably need an instance that
- federates with all others,
- is reliable,
- supports ipv6 (ambivalent for mastodon.cc. 1st link says it supports it, 2nd not)
- supports https,
- reasonable privacy policy

Mastodon disadvantages?
- Anyone can make an OpenStreetMap account at one of the other instances.
- Accounts can't be deleted atm (unless you contact the instance admin)
